School Publications
Since I am in college right now, I have been trying to get things published in school publications. So far, I have had the following publications:
"Trains Waiting": This poem, inspired by this photograph by local photographer Felix Bonomo, speaks of the beauty of a simple scene in a Chinese train station. Published in Spring 2010 issue of Oh, Cat! (CSUSM Creative Writing Community Workshop student magazine); it's also currently being used (with credit & permission) by Mr. Bonomo in his lectures and on display with the aforesaid photo.
"The Paradise Charm": Who doesn't want an easier way to get to paradise? In this Tale of Walden, dwelven maiden Eira creates a charm that is supposed to guarantee entrance into paradise, but it quickly becomes clear her choice has been unwise. Published in Fall 2010 issue of Oh, Cat!. Originally submitted to and rejected for publication in 2005 edition of Tidepools, my junior college's literary magazine.
"Aidoru: A Story in Senryūs": This poem is written as a string of senryū, a Japanese poetic form differing from a haiku only in choice of subject matter. It reflects on the super-competitive world of the aidoru (pop idol) in Japan by telling the story of the rise, career, and decline of a young girl as one of these idols. Published in 318: A Confluence of Coordinated Chaos, a chapbook done for a Small Press Publishing class assignment and compiled by fellow student Kyle Robinson.
Yearbook articles: In high school, I wrote for the school yearbook Aletheia for three years, writing articles on various topics, including high school academics, Chapel, and yearbook class itself.
You can find samples of all the pieces mentioned above, except the yearbook articles, on my Scribd profile. You can also buy the latest edition of Oh, Cat! here.
